Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Programme
At Last Hope Animal Charity, we believe that every animal deserves compassion, especially those without a home.. Our Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) Programme is a humane and effective approach to managing and reducing the population of stray and feral cats in our communities.
What is TNR?
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) involves:
-
Trapping
unowned, outdoor cats in a safe and humane way -
Neutering or spaying
them to prevent further breeding -
Returning
them to their familiar territory to live out their lives without contributing to overpopulation
Why It Matters
Unneutered stray cats can reproduce rapidly. Just one female cat can be responsible for hundreds of kittens in a few short years. Without intervention, colonies grow out of control, putting pressure on local ecosystems, spreading illness, and leading to suffering among the cats themselves.
TNR helps to:
-
Stabilise and gradually reduce
feral cat populations
-
Improve the cats’ quality of life
by preventing disease and injuries linked to mating behaviours
-
Reduce nuisance behaviour
such as spraying, yowling, and fighting
-
Protect wildlife
by preventing unchecked cat population growth
Need Help with a Feral Cat or Colony?
If you’re caring for or have discovered a feral cat or colony in your area, we’re here to help. Last Hope Animal Charity supports members of the public who want to do the right thing for these cats by providing guidance, humane traps, and access to affordable neutering.
Here’s How We Can Support You:
-
We provide humane cat traps
You can borrow traps from us, and we’ll show you how to set them up safely and effectively. We require a €50 refundable deposit when we lend a trap. - Arrange the vet visit: Once the cat is safely trapped, we’ll give you a vet code to take the cat to one of our partnering veterinary clinics for neutering and ear tipping.
- Affordable care: We ask for a small donation to help cover veterinary costs:
- €35 each for the first two cats
- €10 for each additional cat
This donation goes directly back into helping more cats through our TNR programme.
After their recovery, cats are returned to their familiar territory, now neutered, healthier, and no longer contributing to the stray population.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
TNR is not a quick fix, it’s a long-term, compassionate solution. With your help, we can continue to give feral cats the dignity and care they deserve while protecting our environment and community.
